2 Novel Mineral Processing (biological techniques)
Current market developments of mineral commodities are characterised by rising demands and prices, and the future mining will increasingly be constrained by the means and aims of an effective sustainability and environment. The course will present recently published data derived from geomicrobiology, biosorption, leaching chemistry, biomining, biometallurgy, and biological nanoscale biomineralizations. After a brief multidisciplinary introduction, we will discuss novel biotechnological techniques for mineral extraction and processing, perspectives, and consequences for the future mining industry, and the challenges and chances for geoscience: Reevaluation of abandoned mine sites and economic recycling of dump material, slags and mine waters. |
